torchwood100Summary: Jack is torn between warmth and breaking his vortex manipulator. A double drabble.
An involuntary shiver went through Jack as he huddled on the ground, feeling every bit as cold and weary as his teammates. Their trek out in the beacons had been unsuccessful, the trail they'd been following having led them much farther afield than he'd planned. Night had fallen quickly and he'd stopped to make camp before someone broke an ankle in the dark.
Of course they hadn't packed for camping, just what was in Ianto's pack of basic supplies, and no one was boy scout enough to get a fire going from the small pile of kindling they'd gathered.
'Packed everything but the bloody kitchen sink, but no matches,' Owen griped. 'Not even a sodding lighter.'
'No one smokes,' Tosh reminded him.
'Still be a useful thing to have,' he grumbled, giving Ianto a disparaging glance as he said it, making sure he noted it down for future reference.
A small burst of laser fire ought to do it, Jack thought. Then again, risk further permanent damage to his vortex manipulator by overloading the scanner to do it, or let his team die of hypothermia? He shivered again. It was only a small chance of making things worse, after all.
