Summary: Nothing is going to dampen Andy's spirit. A double drabble.
‘I warn you,’ Jack said, giving Andy his serious face, contrasting with Andy very nearly bouncing on his heels. ‘Once you're in, that's it. No backing out. Torchwood doesn't do quitters.’
‘No. Nope. No chance of that,’ Andy replied, giving a salute with one hand and crossing his heart with the other. ‘I am all in.’
‘People here sometimes die in the line of duty,’ Jack reiterated.
‘And sometimes they come back,’ Ianto called out from his desk, not pausing what he was doing, but still listening to every word.
‘You're the exception that proves the rule,’ Jack retorted.
‘Just following your example,’ came the dry remark.
Jack cleared his throat and turned back to Andy. ‘I can't be clearer. We won't always be able to protect you. Sometimes you won't even be able to protect yourself.’
‘Oh, stop scaring him, Jack,’ Gwen chided. ‘He bloody knows, and nothing is going to convince him otherwise. Would you rather him be stuck on patrols with the police force forever?’
‘Oi! I would have been promoted to a detective eventually, Gwen!’ Andy replied, looking indignant. ‘Just thought this was… you know… a bit of an express route.’
Express to where? Jack wondered.
