‘What the hell did you do to it?’ Owen asked, using gloved fingers to examine Jack’s hand. ‘It looks like you ran it through a cheese grater,’ he said, trying not to make the injury worse.
‘Not far off,’ Jack replied, doing well to mask just how painful it must have been. ‘Remember that hoix that got away last week? Well, I found it. Or more to the point, it found me. Must’ve been struggling for food. It jumped me from behind and sunk its teeth into me.’
‘Literally starving if it thought you’d make a decent meal,’ Owen replied.
