Summary: Bernie has a collection worth more than he ever knew. A double drabble.

‘This stuff is all just junk,’ Owen said, rifling through the biscuit tin full of oddments. ‘That kid Bernie is even stupider than he looks if he thought this crap would be worth anything.’ He spilled the contents out on his desk and began sorting them into piles. ‘What do you reckon, Tosh?’ he asked once he was done, surveying the little mounds of coins. ‘Two quid fifty’s worth? Wouldn’t even make it down the milkbar with this lot.’

Tosh leaned across from her own desk to inspect the piles of coins. ‘Doesn’t seem like much, does it? Then again, I guess if you’re struggling for money anything that looks different might be worth something to someone.’

‘Don’t tell me you feel sorry for him?’ She just shrugged, unwilling to commit to justifying her feelings. He sighed and started sweeping the coins back into the tin. ‘This one’s definitely not worth anything,’ he said, picking up the last one and showing her a plain copper round.

‘I wouldn’t be so sure about that, Owen,’ Jack said, appearing from nowhere. He plucked it from Owen’s fingers. ‘Yep, small fortune right here.’

‘Rubbish.’

‘Nope. The plainer the coins, the more they’re worth.’
