'This has got to be the world's longest, most boring shift of all time,' Andy complained, dunking his teabag up and down in the disposable cup Gwen had handed him. 'I'm positive we'll die of old age before this shift is done.'

'Cheer up,' she replied. 'Could be worse. Could be raining.'

Andy scoffed. 'Yeah, you just wait for it. Due any minute now.'

Gwen sipped the scalding tea and stared out over the plass. 'D'you ever wonder about stuff happening right under our noses? You know, all those special ops rumours?'

Andy snorted. 'There's a reason they're called rumours.'
