Notes: Jack is struggling with having handed over the leadership mantle. A double drabble.

Jack drummed the pen on the notepad in front of him, heaving out an annoyed breath. 'This is a waste of time,' he declared. 'And they're late.'

Ianto didn't even look up from briefing papers arranged in front of him across the boardroom table, continuing to study them. 'It's not a waste of time. And yes, they are late, but we're not going to hold that against them.'

Jack slouched in his chair, hating being told what to do, even if it was Ianto doing the telling in his own uniquely subtle way. 'We don't need UNIT.'

'Perhaps not, but it wouldn't hurt to have them on our side either. Torchwood One left us in the shit with everyone and after five years we've done virtually nothing to change that. If we're going to make it through the next five we need to break the cycle of distrust and secrets. We should be working together, not just when it suits one or the other.'

'I still say we don't need them.'

Ianto gave him a cool look. 'You don't have to like my decision but you do have to follow it. That's what you get for putting me in charge.'
