Notes: Kathy knows there must be more to the job than money. A double drabble.

Kathy Swanson cast a disparaging eye over the scene as Torchwood began the process of clearing up the carnage. Jack sidled up next to her to continue supervising.

'There are days where I think my job sucks,' Kathy said, 'but yours takes the cake when it comes to shitty jobs.'

Jack chuckled amiably. 'It has its moments, that's for sure. Lucky I don't do it for the money, huh?'

Kathy gave him one of her uncomprehending looks. 'So, why do you do it? The thrill? The nice car? The girls?'

'You make it sound like a Bond film. Even Ianto will tell you that wearing a nice suit and carrying a gun is where the comparison ends.'

'So?'

'Same as you, Detective. Protecting this city's citizens from bad guys and helping the good guys. Upholding justice, preserving the peace and happiness for all. And we get danger pay.'

Kathy quirked an eyebrow at him. 'Just out of curiosity, how good is the danger pay?'

Jack smirked and raised an eyebrow of his own. 'Thinking of joining?'

She watched Jones scraping bits of bloody alien body off a hatchback with a spatula into a container. 'Nope, just affirming my life choices.'
