Summary: Jack has their romantic evening planned down to the last detail.
Jack cast an approving glance around the room before heading back to the bathroom to check things over. He pull out the box of matches from his pocket and lit one, carefully lighting each of the candles around the room. Their soft golden glow changed the whole look of the place. Gone was their usual tidy, functional bathroom. Now it was a haven; a cavern of ambient light.
Downstairs he already had everything sorted. There was a casserole in the oven, crusty bread cut and buttered, and a bottle of red uncorked, breathing and ready to pour. He wanted everything perfect for tonight, not because it was a special occasion, but because Ianto worked hard and he wanted to do something nice for him. Ianto would have been happy just to come home to a cooked meal, but he deserved a lot more than that. Jack was going to take advantage of his afternoon off to make sure that it was a night to remember.
He lit a few more candles in the bedroom, wondering where they'd managed to collect so many. They came in handy now though, turning the room into a place for romance. Jack headed back downstairs. He could smell the food in the kitchen and it was making his mouth water. Dinner wouldn't be for a while yet, though. He intended on getting Ianto nice and relaxed first. A hot bath and a massage were on the cards. He flipped a switch on the small stereo, letting smooth jazz filter around the room.
He heard the click of the door and the clatter of keys on the sideboard in the hallway. He went out to meet the sound. 'Hey gorgeous,' he said, leaning in for a kiss.
'Hey,' Ianto replied. He sounded a little weary. Jack's agenda for the night would put rights to that.
Jack rested his hands on Ianto's hips. 'I've got a bath with your name all over it. And dinner.'
'That's sounds amazing,' he replied.
Jack gave him another peck on the cheek. 'Why don't you get undressed and I'll get the water running.'
Ianto nodded and quietly padded upstairs. He couldn't help but smile at the candles on the nightstand and the window sill. Jack was spoiling him tonight. He was tugging off his shirt when Jack popped his head in the door. 'All ready for you. I've just got to put some veggies on. Be right back.'
Ianto nodded again. He sat down and pulled off his socks, making his way back to the bathroom. When he got there and took in the sight, there was only one thing for it. 'Jack?' he called out.
The sound of footsteps preceded him. 'What is it?'
'Did you strip our entire garden for this?' Ianto asked, pointing down at the bathtub and the floor covered in rose petals. 'This is going to take ages to clean up.'
'Most of them are in the bath,' Jack replied.
'Uh huh, and what do you think happens when you try to shove that many down the plug hole? It'll be a call to the plumber to come and fix it.'
Jack's face fell. 'I though it'd be romantic. It's what they do in the movies.'
Ianto shook his head. He grabbed Jack's face and kissed him. 'Idiot. I know you meant well, but not everything they do in the movies is actually practical.'
'Well, can you at least enjoy the bath while it's still hot? I promise to clean them up once you're done.'
Ianto smiled. 'I would, but it's still missing something.'
Jack frowned. 'What?' He was sure he'd done everything.
Ianto teased open the buttons on Jack's shirt. 'You,' he said, leaning in for another kiss. 'Dinner can wait.'
