Summary: Jack and Ianto have differing opinions on shopping for their new arrivals.
Ianto heard Jack's tired sigh uttered from behind him where he obviously thought Ianto wouldn't hear him. He really should know better by now, Ianto thought. He had eyes in the back of his head when it came to Jack.
'Did you have something you wanted to say?' Ianto asked.
Ianto shoved the tiny, pale green one-piece outfit into his basket, adding it to the rest of the clothes he'd already picked out. It was still a little strange to be shopping for baby clothes, but if they didn't do it now, they were going to have a hell of a time trying to explain to the shop assistants why Ianto was sporting a large, pregnant bulge. People were generally accepting of the gay couple preparing to adopt, but going so far as to actually give birth was something the twenty-first century wasn't ready for yet. Ianto was scarcely ready for it and he was living it.
Jack peered over Ianto's shoulder, studying their purchases thus far. He really hadn't been at all how Ianto imagined. He expected Jack to be ripping things off racks left, right and centre, insisting they buy this or that because it was just the cutest thing ever. It seemed reality had brought even Jack Harkness crashing back to earth.
'Don't you think we should buy some pink things?' Jack asked. 'You're having three. At least one must surely be a girl.'
'God, I hope so,' Ianto replied. 'I don't think I could cope with three boys.' Coping with Jack was enough some days.
'So, why no pink?'
'Because I don't want to box them into pink for girls and blue for boys. That's so old fashioned.' It was almost unconscious the way he'd chosen every other colour but. It took Jack to point it out to him.
Jack chuckled. 'My husband, the advocate for gender fluidity.'
'I didn't say that. I'm not doing the whole calling them "it" for eighteen years until they decide what gender they want to be. I just think nice neutral colours will do.'
'So long as you're not planning on dressing them all the same,'
Jack warned him. 'I hate those couples that think making them all look identical is cute. Plus, how do they ever tell them apart?' Jack grabbed his arm hard. 'God, what if they're all identical!'
'Then I hope they'll at least look like you if they are,' Ianto teased.
'They'll be good looking no matter who they take after.'
Ianto appreciated the comment. 'I don't think you have to worry. Statistically most twins aren't identical, so that's got to be even rarer for triplets. Besides, they're ours. I'm sure we'll be able to tell them apart even if no one else can.' At least he hoped he would. Triplets. Bloody hell.
'So… no pink?' Jack asked, holding up a particularly cute little hoodie and matching pants. Ianto's heart melted just a bit at seeing it.
He hummed. 'Maybe just a little bit is okay.'
