Summary: Gwen has finally come to realise what Torchwood is. A double drabble.
Gwen didn't feel the slightest bit of guilt as she cast her gaze up to the rear view mirror, seeing Jack lying there in the back seat, cuffed and unconscious. He'd be mad at her when he woke but she'd take it. He'd know that she was right to do this. The safety of her family was at stake. If they wanted Jack, she wasn't going to give him to them. Whoever they were, these Three Families.
It was funny that it had taken her this long to realise the truth of it all. Everyone was expendable to Jack - directly or indirectly. They were never going to live forever like he was. What was the real harm in sacrificing his life for the lives of those that meant the most to her? He'd have done the same in her shoes. They'd all been sacrificed in one way or another.
That's what Torchwood was. She'd loved it for so long but now she saw it all with absolute clarity. Jack was Torchwood and people wanted Torchwood dead.
Gwen shook her head as the threatening messages from her I-five contact lenses went quiet. She'd do what they wanted. Her family weren't expendable.
