Summary: Jack is devasted by the damage done to Archie's career. A double drabble.
'Oh, Archie,' Jack said, sighing as he entered the makeshift hospital ward.. He'd been so busy chasing queen Victoria around London whilst they'd dealt with the alien creature that he hadn't yet had a chance to really grasp what it had done to Archie. Where there'd once been a strapping young Scotsman in his forties now lay a man who looked more like he was in his eighties and not far from death.
'Don't look so downhearted, laddie,' Archie told him. 'I feel fine. I know I don't look it, but I promise you, there's life still left in these bones.'
Jack perched on the edge of the bed. 'It should've been me,' he said. He had a tonne of life to give a youth-sucking alien creature. At the very least he should have kept a better eye on the analysis, ready to pull Archie away from danger. 'They're saying you'll be moved to Torchwood Two,' Jack added glumly.
'Can't have an old dinosaur running this place,' Archie replied. 'But I've still got plenty to give.'
'It's just a pity,' Jack said. 'Torchwood One couldn't have been in better hands than yours.'
'Maybe it's time you considered taking her over.'
