Mad as hell right now at the spam bots trolling AO3 and putting comments on fics accusing them of being AI generated.

The comments are guest comments but stealing genuine usernames to make them look like the real deal.

The first one I took aim at (politely insulted) unsure if it wasn't genuine, but two on the same fic now and I've reported both as spam.

For blood boiling comments see under the cut...  )

Fuck you AI, stealing our works and using them, then putting our stories through your systems and saying they're fake. If they seem like they were written by AI it's only because you stole them in the first place and passed them off as yours.

And fuck your stupid spam bots. Go find something constructive to do with your time and energy, or better yet, fuck off altogether!

This poor little guy just crashed into my window on a gust of wild weather. He was in a right tangle of wings and upside down on his back, unable to right himself.

Managed to carefully scoop him up out of the rain and give him a makeshift nest.

Hopefully he's just a bit dazed by the trauma. Keep you posted.

Addendum: just went to check on the little guy and he was looking around and then took flight, so all appears to be well. Good luck to him and hopefully no more smashing into windows!

Okay, so another ranting complaint.

Was just checking out when I was due to subscribe for the next 12 Torchwood audioplays from Big Finish. Turns out that was last month.

Only, I go in to get the bundle and nearly die when I see the price tag. $179AUD for the bundle of 12. Yikes!

I checked my last invoice for the previous 12 episode bundle and it was only $94AUD. That is literally double the price! They said there'd be an increase, but seriously? That's gouging. You won't recoup your costs if you turn away all your customers.

I won't be in a hurry to buy more at that rate. Even a single episode is being charged at $16.81AUD which is scarcely less than the so-called discounted bundle ($14.95 per episode). Even the CD versions are becoming cheaper by comparison (only $25 extra to get it on digital download AND CD i.e. the CD costs you a whole $2). Not to mention they always charge an international conversion fee on top, even thought they've already quoted the local price on the website and at the checkout.

I will be waiting an age for BF to discount it back down to something reasonable.

Outrageous.

Question for the group: has AO3 been taken over by AI bots?

I don't get a lot of comments on fics (and that's fine) but suddenly I had eight comments overnight on fics I posted yesterday, from "authors" who don't write in my fandoms or who only started posting a few days ago (though we all.know you can change the date something shows as being posted.)

Either the accounts are fake, or genuine author accounts are being hacked and used to post fake comments.

It's ruined the sanctity of the last proper refuge for authors.

Anyone else seeing this?

A whole month after it was all over the internet, Big Finish finally decided to email me (their loyal pre-order customer) to tell me what I already knew. IT DOES NOT TAKE A MONTH AND IT'S HARDLY AN APOLOGY.
Feel free to get in touch with them and let them know your feelings. #teambarrowman

"TORCHWOOD MONTHLY RANGE. Big Finish has taken the decision to remove Torchwood: Absent Friends from the Monthly Range release schedule and has no plans to publish this title at this time.

Please note: all bundle pre-orders for the Torchwood Monthly Range stories 49-54 or 49-60 will feature an alternative title in its place.

Listeners who have pre-ordered this title as an individual purchase and would like to request a refund can do so by contacting the Sales team via bigfinish.com/contact."

Le sigh...

Another snap five day hard lock down starting at midnight.

Sigh....

m_findlow: (Default)

The tiny plastic pin holding your fridge door snaps as you gently open it and the whole main door falls off, whilst the top heavy top freezer door (also attached by same said plastic pin) then drops down and tries to break your arm as you're trying to hold the main door from spilling all its glass jars and milk. My arm just above the elbow is now very sore and bruised.

Lucky Mum was still at the table nearby when I yelled for help. The she yelled to Dad who did the very helpful thing of not turning up at all. Apparently when you yell, he takes that as a sign to keep on ignoring you, because yelling is not a signal for serious help. Useless twat.

Both doors are now taped to the fridge with gaffer tape until tomorrow. Not looking forward to trying to fix breakfast. We'll have to take off the top freezer door first, then the main door, just to get anything out, and then stick it all back together again. Lucky we haven't bought our food for Christmas yet as we often stockpile early.

And someone is going to have to go out and buy a new fridge - tomorrow. There's everybody's one Christmas present for this year.

Fuck you, karma.

That first time you have to leave the house and wear a mask, spending an infuriating hour tugging it down out of your eyeballs (BTW not medically advised) and only after you come home and inspect them do you realise that, disposable as they are, they actually have a right way up and a wrong way up.
Guess which way I was wearing it? #maskvirgin *headdesk*

It's only taken forever of me stopping and starting, but finally my cross stitch project is finished. Just needs a press.

Bit of a bummer I've only got one kit left now since I haven't been to a trade fair in years and with the pandemic, not likely to be at one for a very long time either.

(For me the part about Ianto being a little bit of joystick action is utterly priceless - who knew my keyboard had a kinky side!)

Hey all you Whovians!

A shout out and some shameless promotion for some fellow Whovian fans.

Their e-zine, "Tales From The Matrix" comes out weekly, with 19 issues already published, showcasing some cool cover artwork as well. I mighthave been approached to contribute one or two stories for future editions. :)

My family are trying to warp my head with the monotony of self isolation.

Just when I think I've grappled with the idea that it's May and I'm not losing my mind I start hearing the tune of Christmas carols (badly, I might add - like those singing candles that have been lit too many times).

After wandering around the house for five minutes trying to discover the source of the strange festive music I ended up in the kitchen staring at the bin. Lo and behold when I push open the lid it gets louder, confirming my utter bafflement. I believe the question I asked was "why is our bin singing Christmas carols?"

Apparently there was a broken novelty pen Mum found in the pantry which she threw out. Hours later it decided it wasn't as broken as she thought. We think it has finally given up the ghost but not without a fight.

Validation that I've not reached complete madness yet, but it's a close thing.

On a more positive note - well done to the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

You don't deserve to be classed as human beings. Coronavirus is too good for you. The karma bus should run you over.

Had to share this because it's just so funny and will stop you thinking about coronavirus for thirty two seconds (or a whole minute if you watch it twice).

Rather late, I know, but since I was flat out trying to hit my GYWO target before the end of the year I didn't find time to post anything else. This year our social committee at work decided to ramp up the old Christmas spirit by having a decorating competition.

I was allocated to team "too busy to decorate" since the rest of my real team are at the other end of the office and all the manager's offices are along the back wall. Despite the lack of spirit, I took it upon myself to not embarrass ourselves by doing next to nothing, and so set off on my three week journey to do my bit (and yes, still fit in all of my own work).

Needless to say our of the six teams we didn't even place, but we were up against a entire section of office turned into gingerbread houses and a full compliment of carolers upstairs. Overall the judgement day morning was a hoot though and everybody excelled themselves with food and merriment.

Photos under the cut.

I attempted a Halloween theme at work this year to try and improve morale (since it's been lower than rock bottom for the better part of a year).

A pity the only person it didn't work on was me. My day still sucked.

Happy Halloween!

Our street has become a Christmas light mecca this year. There are literally busloads of people wandering and driving through! Almost all the houses have done something this year. We even made the newspapers for one of the best streets in the east.
There's even a kid on an electric bike kitted out like a sleigh with lights, dressed as santa handing out lollies.

The house that started it all....

The house next door to them.

The house opposite ours. They have a life size Santa waxwork by the door.

The other house opposite us. The one in between had lights too, but they've gone away.

Our tree and window lights. You can see psychedelic house across the road the background.

Small string of lights we wrapped around the front porch. Our meagre contribution since the front eaves are too high to put up lights and we don't have external power. These babies are solar.

9:15pm and still 35 degrees out there. They say it won't get below 27 and that's at around 7am tomorrow.

Hi everyone!

It's that time of year again when [livejournal.com profile] torchwood_fest hosts it's winter fest, so I'm on the hunt for lovely folk who might be willing to give up a little bit of their time to beta my submissions.

Four pieces written to date, all under 2,000 words. I'm hoping to keep them all short and sweet this year.

If you can spare a little time, I'd be delighted and immensely grateful, even if it's only one fic. No betas means no submissions, and the world is a little blander for a lack of fluffy Torchwood fics.

Please feel free to reply to this post or PM me.

Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone!

It's that time of year again when Torchwood Fest starts up for its Spring/Summer fest, which means I'm on the hunt for some good folk to volunteer their time and skills for beta'ing.

twf banner.jpg

If anyone can lend their time to myself or other writers, please sing out (reply or PM, and check out [livejournal.com profile] torchwood_fest for a beta callout in the coming days). I have three pieces ready for beta: one is just under 6k and two others are 1k each.

Hope to see you all for another successful fest!
