Summary: Ianto is taken aback by Jack's question. A double drabble.
'Are you asking me out on a date?' If the words sounded fumbled and a little bit surprised, that was because they did come as a complete surprise. Did Jack Harkness even do dates?
Now really wasn't the time to be entertaining thoughts like that. They had a job to do right now and Jack suddenly wanting to get all personal like this was really throwing Ianto off his game.
He supposed he was slightly to blame for that. He'd been the one to ask why they were helping John in the first place, and clearly his own dislike for this newcomer had been picked up on by Jack. That or he really had come back just for him. It was just so bloody hard to tell.
Of course he wanted to say yes, but that was too obvious and a little desperate, wasn't it? Jack still had a lot of explaining to do. He also didn't want to be some rebound romance, or a pawn in some historical spat between John and Jack.
'Well, so long as it's not in an office,' he heard himself say, wishing he could just sink into the floor and disappear. Smooth, Jones. Smooth.
