Summary: Tosh's dying is irrelevant when so many more lives are at stake . A double drabble.
On some level, Tosh knew she'd been shot and that it was probably fatal. She was surprised at how little she felt in reacting to the gunshot. She expected she'd be sad or angry or panicked that life was quickly ebbing out of her, and that there was so much in life she still hadn't done or experienced.
Instead, all she could think about was the chaos still going on outside. The city was falling apart and Owen was headed straight into the worst of it, trying to prevent the nuclear power plant from melting down. If it did, everyone in the city would die. That just wasn't going to happen. Not if she had anything to do with it.
A normal person would be curled up in agony, bemoaning the brevity of life. Tosh barely felt any of it. Partly it was to do with the painkillers, but mostly it was mind over matter. Her personal pain was insignificant compared to the suffering of everyone else if she failed. This was her job and what she'd worked so hard to ensure never happened. She might die tonight, alone and without any glory or thanks, but no one else would.
