Summary: Jack's landing isn't as soft for Ianto as it is for Jack. A double drabble.
Jack massaged the back of his neck, still feeling a twinge of whiplash that had come from falling fifteen feet from a flying dinosaur. ‘Not quite how I planned on spending my evening,’ he finally said, trying to break the silence that hung in the air between himself and his new recruit as they watched their pet from behind the safety of a perspex wall deep within the bowels of the hub.
‘Have you ever planned an evening of capturing prehistoric creatures by trying to hitch a ride on them?’ came the dry-witted reply.
Touche, he thought. He just gave a shrug of his shoulders in reply. ‘Thanks for giving me a soft landing, by the way.’
There was a beat before he spoke again. ‘May I ask you something, sir?’
Ooh, he liked that, being called sir. There was something a little bit kinky in it. ‘What’s that?’
‘You told me to report in first thing tomorrow.’ He paused and checked his watch. ‘Well, today now, I suppose. Just wondered if that wasn’t just so your soft landing didn’t result in my being able to lodge a workplace safety claim. Because I wasn't technically your employee at the time.’
