Summary: Jack has a little practical joke for Ianto. A triple drabble.
Jack tiptoed into the archives, pulling on the rubber clown mask that had finally arrived in the post just in time for Halloween. It was gruesome and unsettling - just perfect for giving Ianto spooky a little surprise.
Happy Halloween, Ianto, he thought, sneaking up to the doorway, pausing, listening to make sure Ianto was on the other side, tapping away quietly at his laptop. Jack composed himself, then jumped out in front of him, roaring out a ghoulish sound.
The scream that tore from him was as loud as it was horrific. So much so that it even made Jack jump slightly in fright. He’d expected a yelp and even a startle from his young lover, but the reaction was more than he’d hoped for.
Seeing how suddenly white and panicked Ianto was, Jack immediately ripped the mask from his head, not caring if his hair now stuck out at odd angles, giving a fright of its own. ‘It’s okay, Ianto. It’s only me.’
Ianto’s hand clutched at his chest as he caught his breath. ‘Jesus, Jack. As if there’s not already a million things at Torchwood trying to kill me, you want to try frightening me to death?’
‘Honestly? I didn't think clowns would freak you out so much.’
‘I’m perfectly fine with clowns,’ he said, snatching the horrific mask from Jack's hand. ‘It’s idiots with terrifying masks like this that I have a problem with.’
‘Sorry. I only meant to give you a little scare. Maybe even just a chance to laugh at how ridiculous it was that I'd think you’d be scared at all.’
‘Well, you succeeded well beyond your expectations. Now, having got my heart rate going a million miles an hour, do you think maybe we could try something different to get my heart racing?’
