Summary: Tosh is perplexed by the behaviour of their conference colleagues. A double drabble.
Tosh leaned over the dining room table so that she wouldn’t be easily overheard by anyone except for Ianto opposite her. ‘Everyone is avoiding us,’ she said, careful not to lean too far into her muesli.
Ianto calmly carried on carving up his stack of pancakes. ‘I think they’re scared of us,’ he replied.
Tosh looked around the room full of their peers from UNIT, KVI and other intelligence agencies. ‘Scared? Since when?’ She was sure they’d all been perfectly ambivalent to their presence yesterday, but now they were doing their level best to avoid looking in their direction.
‘Probably since your presentation yesterday afternoon,’ he said, as if he were merely discussing the weather. ‘God knows Jack’s been going to these conferences for years trying to convince them of the threat that aliens pose to the planet. Seems once you boil it down to mathematical probabilities of their locating Earth and relative hostility of each known species, you’ve painted rather a compelling picture as to exactly why they should start listening to us.’
‘I did all that?’
‘Amazing how cold, hard facts work, isn’t it? And Jack will be chuffed that he’s found a permanent replacement for attending conferences.’
