Summary: There's trouble dealing with an artefact that's seemingly broken. A double drabble.
'Argh, stupid thing is on the blink!' Jack cried, slamming the device rather hard onto the desk in front of him.
'Perhaps you shouldn't do that,' Tosh said, casting a worried glance at it, thinking Jack's actions could only make their situation worse. Not that she was entirely sure how. It was already emitting a pulse wave that was causing periodic disruption to their electricity supply, making the lights flash on and off like a strobing discotheque, along with a lower frequency soundwave causing everything from burst eardrums to nosebleeds.
'Can't you fix the bloody thing?' Owen yelled doubly loud on account of his burst eardrum, whilst Ianto looked desperate to end it as well, holding his handkerchief to his nose. 'Reverse the polarity or something!'
'Why does everyone always think reversing polarity fixes things?' Jack cried.
'Only because it's been in every science fiction movie ever created,' Ianto replied nasally. 'What exactly does reversing polarity do, anyway?'
'In most cases, nothing,' Tosh replied, one hand over her own aching ear. 'It's a flawed concept in mechanical physics.'
Ianto moved quickly to offer Jack a tissue as his own nose started dripping blood. 'How about just switching it off, then?'
