Summary: The rift is determined not to make things easy. A double drabble.
‘It’s all the way up there?’ Gwen asked, hand raised to shield her eyes against the glaring cloudy sky as she gazed upward. The towering city block loomed a full fifteen storeys over their heads and their quarry – whatever that might be – was all the way at the top.
‘According to these readings, then yes,’ Ianto replied, still studying them for any change.
‘Great,’ Gwen muttered. ‘Do you suppose one day we might be able to bribe the rift to not be a bastard nightmare?’
‘I doubt it.’
‘What are we waiting for, an engraved invitation?’ Jack called out, already pulling across the mesh that was fencing the building off from public access.
‘It’s very high up and this building has been condemned for a reason. Two homeless people died just last week when they fell through the rotting floors, trying to use the place as somewhere to sleep.’
‘Well, we’re not homeless and we’re not planning on sleeping here, so come on. Last one to the top buys dinner, and personally, I'm hankering for a pound of medium rare steak fillet.’ He disappeared up the concrete steps without waiting for a reply.
‘I think he rather missed the point.’
