Summary: Jack's enthusiasm at his role on the big day is somewhat lacking. A double drabble.
'Do not pout,' Captain, Queen Victoria scolded, watching Jack stand there, looking out of place. 'It is unbecoming behaviour in someone of your…' she paused, making an amused little sound, 'age.'
'Yes, Your Majesty,' he replied, sounding as downtrodden as possible.
'You could have been in charge of all this, you know,' the Queen carried on lecturing him. 'It was you who refused the posting. One does not normally accept rejection of one's proposals. I could have commanded it of you, you know,' she reminded him.
'Yes, Your Majesty,' he repeated.
'State of the art facilities,' she said. 'All the conveniences of modern Britain. A truly historic day. A far cry from what we began with three decades ago. A brand new building from which to defend the Empire, right here in the heart of London, just a stone's throw away from the Palace.' She paused again. 'Just far enough that you shan't cause any trouble for us. Isn't that right?'
She gave him the eye. 'Now, hold that ribbon good and tight, Captain,' she instructed. 'We shall wish to make a clean cut to open Torchwood London's new headquarters.'
Jack sighed, pulling the red ribbon taut. 'Yes, Your Majesty.'
