Title: No upside
Character: Owen, Ianto
Author: m_findlow
Rating: PG
Length: 200 words
Summary: Owen's physique is not made for scaling mountains. A double drabble.
‘How much further is it?’ Owen complained, trailing further and further behind Ianto as they clambered up the steep side of the Welsh hill. ‘We must be bloody close by now.’
Ianto’s brow furrowed as he studied his PDA. ‘Can’t be sure,’ he replied. ‘The signal isn’t getting stronger or weaker. It just is.’
Owen groaned. ‘Great. My legs are bloody killing me, trying to trek up this thing. You’ve got longer legs than me. That’s less pain and suffering by my estimation.’ He puffed and stopped to catch his breath. ‘Thought you said it was just a slag heap?’
‘No, that would be that hill over there,’ Ianto said, pointing to an identical looking mountain. ‘This mountain has the mines running all the way underneath it.’
Owen sucked in a few deep breaths and then his brain caught up with him. ‘Hang on, if you’re saying the signal is coming from around here and there’s a bloody mine running underneath us, then why are we all the way up here?’
Ianto rolled his eyes. ‘Because an alien isn’t going to use the regular mine entrance. They’re going to use a secret one tucked into the side of the mountain.’
