Summary: Jack can't be certain this isn't the end, but it is an end. A triple drabble.
Explosion. That was a new one, Jack thought. Just when he'd thought he'd died every way possible, life continued to prove him wrong.
He'd been killed for being too close to an explosion before, and had once tripped a wire on a set of land mines back in France during the Second World War, but he'd never actually been the source of the explosion.
He'd lost limbs before, even been burned alive until there was scarcely more than bones left, but he'd never faced quite such definite obliteration. Could he come back from this? History and science said he could, but in his heart he was less sure. Right now, the priority was to make sure he didn't hurt anyone else in the process, and that meant Gwen and Ianto.
He didn't have to be a genius to know the explosion would be huge, all he knew was that there wasn't nearly enough time to get them both safely clear of the danger. Gwen was running; with luck she might make it. But Ianto was being stubborn and loyal. He wouldn't leave Jack, not even to save his own life. He'd rather die trying to make sure that no harm came to Jack. It was the kind of thing that made Jack love him all the more, no matter how infuriating it was.
The invisible lift was the only option. Even so, it'd be tight. Jack should have been running in the opposite direction, trying to put as much distance between them as possible, yet his eyes remained transfixed on his lover's unwilling escape. If this really was the end, Jack didn't want to be alone. If the last thing he was going to see in this life was Ianto, then it was a good way to end it all.
