Author: m_findlow
Rating: PG
Length: 200 words
Summary: Jack is sorely tempted to take matters into his own hands. A double drabble.
Ianto narrowed his eyes as Jack wandered into the hub, shucking his greatcoat. ‘Where have you been all this time?’
‘Out,’ Jack replied, keeping his answer short.
‘Out? Where?’ he insisted, not letting Jack get away with keeping secrets.
‘At the CPS, if you must know,’ came Jack's terse reply.
‘You weren't hassling them again, were you? They have jobs to do,’ he told Jack.
Jack rounded on him, face angry. ‘Do you want those cannibals behind bars for life or not?’
‘Of course I do. But haranguing the lawyers, who are on our side,’ he reminded Jack, ‘is not helping.’
‘You’re right about that,’ Jack said in an usually determined tone.
‘Don’t,’ Ianto wanted him, already sensing what Jack was thinking. ‘Let them do their job. Don’t even think about taking matters into your own hands.’
‘I could. Should,’ he added. ‘No one would ever find out. They’d just be dead.’ Jack's cold eyes met his. ‘It's no less than they deserve.’
‘Perhaps,’ Ianto conceded, ‘But I'd know. I'd know we thought we were above the law. Dealing with aliens is one thing, but when we decide which humans get to live and die, we’re no better than them.’
