Summary: Ianto 's attempts to be stealthy have been foiled. A triple drabble.
‘Weevil is supposed to be somewhere within a two block vicinity,’ Ianto reported, having studied his PDA. ‘This late at night shouldn't be too hard to find. No one else will be out at this hour.’
Jack had to agree. Roaming the streets in the dead of night was just asking to become weevil fodder.
They walked cautiously, keeping their eyes and ears peeled for the slightest sound that might give away the weevil's whereabouts. He frowned when his ears finally did pick up a sound. Almost like the sound of a carnival. Music?
‘Ianto, is that your phone?’
He frowned back and pulled it from his pocket to check it. ‘Nope. Is it yours?’
Jack snorted. ‘Ianto, mine goes “ring ring”, not some silly tune.’
‘Perhaps you accidentally activated the radio app.’
‘It can do that?’ He tugged it from his greatcoat and studied it. ‘Nope, not mine either. So where the hell is that music coming from?’ They stood stock still and listened harder, then Jack's face scrunched up in confusion and he dropped to his haunches. ‘Ianto, I think it's your shoe. The right one.’
‘Oh, don't be so ridiculous!’ Jack stared at him and then he growled under his breath and lifted his leg to tug it off and prove Jack had lost his mind. Instead, there was a distinct tune coming from the heel when he held it up for inspection. ‘It's never played music before,’ he said, realising how silly that sounded.
‘Maybe you stepped in something.’
‘Musical chewing gum?’
‘I was thinking nanites,’ Jack replied. ‘They can be programmed for things like that. Might have been in a puddle or something.’
‘And they chose now to start up a tune? We're hunting a weevil. I can't capture a weevil with a singing shoe!’
