Summary: It's more fun speculating than knowing the truth sometimes. A triple drabble.
'Thoughts?' Gwen asked, holding up the object she'd picked up earlier this morning when the minor rift alert had come through. It was soaked in rift radiation, but so far was about as un-alien looking as could be.
'It looks like one of those fancy cheese boards you see at dinner parties,ć Tosh offered.' Or maybe for serving up pizza,' she added, taking in the squarish shape of it with a narrower end that looked like a handle.
'Wouldn't fit enough pizza on it to feed us,' Owen said.
'Well, I meant more as pizza for one. Like it's part of a serving set.'
'You're making me hungry with talk of pizza and cheese,' Gwen remarked.
Owen turned it over in his hand, studying it more closely. 'Could be some kind of medical implement.'
'Everything always has to be medical with you,' Gwen replied.
'Maybe it's a strange musical instrument,' Ianto offered, giving it a little bongo drum tap, 'or a mallet for a really big gong. Or an alien xylophone. Do aliens play xylophones?'
'Maybe it's a signal wand, like for directing traffic,' Tosh said, having another guess.
'We could play this game all day long,' Gwen said, before leaning back in her chair and calling out. 'Jack? What do you reckon this is?'
He smirked. 'Well, it's a paddle, obviously.'
'Must be a really small canoe,' Owen teased.
'Not that kind of paddle,' Jack said. Gwen quickly put it down, flushing pink.
'You know,' Ianto began, 'I never understood the sexual appeal of inflicting pain on someone.'
Jack grinned back, taking the paddle in hand. 'That's only because you've never had it done right.'
Owen squeezed his eyes shut and stuck his fingers in his ears. 'I liked it better when we called it a cheese board.'
