Summary: Torchwood Washington is not making a great first impression. A double drabble.
Ianto sipped, then spat, cringing at the paper cup in his hands. ‘God, what the hell is that?’ he asked, wondering if this was some kind of hazing put on by the new Washington branch.
‘Hey!’ Rex cried, disgusted by his actions. ‘That cost me five bucks,’ he said, his own cup still sitting untouched on the desk in front of him.
‘I repeat my question,’ Ianto said, putting the cup on the desk and pushing it away from his body. ‘What is that?’
‘Coffee,’ Rex replied. ‘World War Two here said that’s what you Brits drink these days.’
Ianto frowned at Rex, wondering if he’d made the right decision letting Jack convince him to let Rex run their US flagship. ‘I think I liked it better when you assumed we all drank tea.’
Jack took a tentative sip of his own, pulled a face, then abandoned it on the desk alongside Ianto’s. ‘Yeah, it’s coffee alright. But it’s American coffee.’
‘How can you tell?’ Ianto asked. ‘It’s so weak it could have been the water Rex washed his socks in.’
‘Did you come to insult me or see how we’re running things?’
‘Well, it clearly needs some further work.’
