torchwood100Summary: For once, finding what they're looking forward isn't a great outcome. A double drabble.
Owen caught the frown of Tosh's face from several yards away as she stood in the middle of the road just staring into her PDA. He wandered over and found that she wasn't looking down at her PDA, but at the metal grate in the road. Down beneath would be nothing but murky tunnels, filthy water, rats and the kinds of things that liked to eat rats. Weevils.
Owen sighed. ‘It's down there, isn't it?’ he asked, referring to their missing object, freshly arrived on the latest rift spike.
‘Afraid so,’ Tosh replied. ‘The readings confirm it.’
Owen looked around. Jack was some distance away, searching with his own equipment and hadn't seen them conferring. As soon as he did, one or both of them would have to pull up the grate and go down there. ‘We could just pretend we never saw it.’ If Jack found it first, he'd probably go himself.
‘That's sneaky and underhanded.’
‘Do you want to go down there?’
Tosh chewed her lip then looked back over her shoulder at Jack. ‘Maybe we should try looking over there,’ she said, pointing at a narrow alley.
Owen grinned. ‘Good idea. It's bound to be hiding there.’
