Summary: Owen is counting on a little bit of experience to help him out. A double drabble.
Owen peered hesitantly at the large mass of brown alien lying sedated on his autopsy table. Jack was supervising, just in case the sedative wasn't enough. It was nice to know that if it woke up angry, Jack was an immortal diversion to be used at will. ‘You're sure that's its mouth?’ he asked, pointing with his stethoscope in the general direction of it.
Jack arched an eyebrow at him. ‘It's got teeth in it, doesn't it?’
‘Not sure that's the definitive characteristic to apply to alien lifeforms. For all we know that could be its other end.’ Owen had seen stranger things.
Jack folded his arms across his chest and smirked. ‘How many aliens have you seen that have teeth in their butt? ‘
Owen assumed the question was rhetorical. ‘I'm asking you instead. Figure you're probably authority on the backsides of most species. You know, which ones are safe to poke.’
‘Believe me, there are easier ways to find that out than through experimentation. I've seen species where it's the mouth you have to be most wary of.’
‘I imagine teeth are a factor in that?’
Jack laughed out loud. ‘Trust me, teeth are the least of your problems.’
