Summary: Jack has left more than one surprise for Ianto. A triple drabble.
Ianto was surprised to find a gift on his desk. He’d been out at the shops and everyone else was still out so they must have arrived sometime in between.
He fingered the velvety soft petals and admired them. Red was his colour, after all.
“A dozen roses would be nice. No one's ever bought me roses.” He’d said it once upon a time, long ago, not that he thought anyone had been listening at the time. He was pretty sure Jack hadn’t even been there at the time, but then again, Jack had his ways of finding things out when it suited him. Completely oblivious and willfully ignorant sometimes too, but you just never knew when something you'd said or done might come back to haunt you. Especially if you worked at Torchwood.
He didn’t resist the smile that played on his lips as he unpocketed his phone and hit the speed dial. It answered on the third ring. ‘They’re gorgeous. Thank you,’ he said, before Jack could spoil the moment.
‘You really like them?’ Jack sounded more surprised than Ianto expected.
‘Of course. I’m allowed to buck the gender stereotypes every once in a while.’
Jack puffed out an audible breath on the other end of the phone. ‘Well, I can't tell you how relieved I am. I thought you were going to be massively pissed off about the dent in the driver’s side door.’
Ianto stopped and did a double take. ‘What dent?’
The pregnant pause didn’t bode well. ‘Um, the one I was apologising for on the card?’
Ianto pawed through the long stems, discovering the tiny gift card tucked inside and quickly reading it. ‘I told you not to take my bloody car!’ He should have known Jack wouldn’t just send roses on a whim.
