torchwood100Summary: Ianto is suspicious when it comes to having a nice night off. A double drabble.
Jack watched as Ianto fidgeted in the seat across from him, appearing agitated or distracted. ‘What’s wrong with you tonight?’ Jack asked, curious as to why Ianto was not his usual picture of calmness. ‘Don’t you like it here?’
Ianto stopped fidgeting a moment and looked around the room, taking in the crisp white linens, sparkling dinnerware and atmospheric candlelight. ‘Of course I like it here,’ he replied. ‘I happen to know just how long you have to wait to get a reservation here.’ It was a fact that had caught Jack by surprise when he’d booked it, having to hold out for a date night sometime off in the future.
‘Then what?’ Jack wanted everything to be perfect tonight.
Ianto picked up the bread roll from his plate. ‘Because I know, no matter how lovely this place is, as soon as I cut this open, something is going to happen. God knows, I might even get as far as buttering it, spending the rest of the night thinking about how good that salty butter would have tasted.’
Jack rolled his eyes. ‘You are grim tonight. Not every date night will be an unmitigated disaster.’
Then Jack's vortex manipulator beeped.
