Summary: The team are debating how to break bad news to Jack. A triple drabble.
‘You should be the one to tell him,’ Owen said, pushing the thin file across the boardroom table towards Gwen.
Her eyes opened wide at the suggestion. ‘No way! I'm not the one who wanted to be in charge. You do it.’
‘Gwen's right,’ Tosh piped up before anyone could suggest that she do it instead. ‘You did say you were the most senior ranking person at the time.’
Owen shifted uncomfortably in his chair. ‘Yeah, well, doesn't mean I ended up in charge, does it?’ He threw a look in Gwen's direction. ‘You ended up calling the shots.’
‘Not on this,’ she quickly countered. ‘And I only took it on when it became obvious that Jack didn't look like he was coming back.’
‘Fine. Tosh can do it then.’
‘Me?’ she squeaked. ‘Why me?’
‘Jack's least likely to be pissed at you.’
‘That's hardly fair.’ She was about to strengthen her argument when Ianto backed into the room, carrying a tray of coffee and biscuits. The three of them looked at each other and nodded in agreement.
‘Here, Ianto,’ Owen said, holding up the file. ‘We've taken a vote and you get to report to Jack. Figured it's time you did more than serve the coffee round here.’
Ianto took the file and quickly flipped through it. ‘No chance. I didn't sink the company boat. I was just the one that had to pick up the three of you from being drowned out in the Bristol Channel. Besides, Jack's already expressed his feelings on the matter.’
‘When was that?’
‘When I put in the requisition for the salvage operation. Believe me, he's been reviewing the files during the time he was away and a sunk boat is going to be the least of your worries when he gets here.’
