Summary: Jack's beliefs are only further solidified by the heartless actions of the cybermen. A double drabble.
Jack had confronted cybermen before. They were only marginally less terrifying than daleks, and only because Jack had his own chequered history with daleks, which had resulted in his death, and the life he was living right now. The difference, in Jack’s opinion, was that both desired to proliferate themselves across the universe and to wipe out every other living thing in their paths, except the daleks had ego driving them on with their plans for dominance. Cybermen simply sought to replicate and convert because that was all they knew. They had no emotions, not even malice. They were cold, calculating killing machines and nothing more.
Jack had tolerated Ianto’s stupidity in bringing one into their midst, only because he cared for Ianto – in the way he cared for all his team – and because there was something about this half-converted cyberwoman that made him wonder whether it could be saved. He didn't think so, but he would be the first to happily be proven wrong.
The moment he saw it grab Ianto and fling him bodily across the hub like a piece of trash, he knew he’d been right all along. Cybermen had no feelings. Not even love could survive.
