Notes: Ianto finally meets Jack's Doctor, sort of. It's all a bit awkward.

'So that was your Doctor,' Ianto asked tentatively when Jack returned from London.

'Ten? Yeah.'

'Ten?'

'Oh, I meant as in tenth regeneration. Helps to keep track of which one you're dealing with. All of them have visited Earth at some point.'

'So you met "Ten" back in the forties?'

'Actually I met "Nine", but he regenerated the day I died and became immortal. I met "Ten" during the year that never was.'

'Sounds complicated.'

'You get used to it.'

'He looks younger than I expected,' echoing Gwen's earlier comment.

'Jealous?'

'Maybe.'

'Don't be. I'll always come back for you.'

The Doctor is a most confusing individual, it's true. He makes everything complicated.

Just had a thought.....

If DT is the Doctor's 10th regeneration, would that not make him #11?

The original doctor was #1.
First regeneration would have given us Doctor #2
Second regeneration would have been Doctor #3,,,, and so on.

So by right if DT is the Doctor's 10th regeneration, he should be Doctor #11, no?

Oh... all this timey, wimey stuff gives me a headache...... :)

You are on the right track - it's not so much a timey-wimey thing as a language thing:

DT is the Tenth Doctor - the Tenth incarnation - therefore he is the Ninth regeneration.

Most fans use the word 'regeneration' when they actually mean 'incarnation'.

Now I need to go and lie down too :)
