Summary: Torchwood has never faced an emergency of this magnitude. A double drabble.
Jack ran a hand through his hair, trying to keep his emotions under control as he assessed the situation. Things were dire and it was his job to see them through this. ‘Backup?’
‘We don't have any.’
‘Okay, so how long would it take to bring in backup?’
There was a pause, which Jack knew wouldn't lead to any good news. ‘A week at least. It's highly specialised equipment, custom built to order. We've only ever had one and never anticipated needing more than one. And it's expensive.’
‘I don't care about the expense,’ Jack said, his frustration growing by the second. ‘My question is, what do we do right now? We've never faced an emergency like this before.’ Torchwood was literally straying into uncharted waters.
Ianto sighed. ‘It's a broken coffee machine. It's given us years of service and thousands of cups of coffee. Eventually it had to break down. We'll be fine. We can always get coffee from Baps and Beans around the corner. It's actually pretty reasonable, considering.’
Jack groaned and dropped his head into his hands on the desk. Talk about a disaster of epic proportions.
Ianto patted his shoulder. ‘You're immortal. You'll survive. I promise.’
