Summary: Jack never believed in a normal life. A double drabble.
Jack had come to realise, long ago, that he was never destined for a normal life. He’d known it long before discovered he’d become immortal, long before he’d met the Doctor, perhaps even before he’d joined the Time Agency. He loved his family and his home, but it always felt like there had to be more. More than just growing up, raising a family, finding a trade in which he might excel and enjoy. His father had explained that there was a whole universe out there, beyond the dunes and the sun in the sky and the stars that twinkled overhead. So many other places and species.
His father must have known that filling a young boy’s head with tales of faraway places and beings would fuel the desire to see them all first hand.
‘How come you never wanted to travel and see everything?’ a young Jack once asked his father as they camped by a small fire under the stars. ‘This is all so normal and boring.’
His father clutched him tight. ‘If I’d done all that then I’d never have met you mother, or had you and Gray. Sometimes normal life is the best kind there is.’
