torchwood100Summary: Jack and Owen are in for a long night. A triple drabble.
Jack turned the wheel of the SUV at the last moment, forcing it to fishtail horizontally across the road, blocking any further traffic and causing the wheels to screech as he hit the brakes. He could have just pulled up at the curb, but what was the point of being Torchwood if he couldn’t make a grand entrance?
Owen didn’t even comment on it, which was disappointing. Had he grown that predictable?
He jumped out, slamming the door, making sure his coat flapped with just a little bit of flair as he strode directly up to the police tape. ‘Home time boys and girls,’ he announced. ‘We’ll take it from here. Thanks for taping up the scene for us.’
The constable manning the barrier looked at him quizzically. ‘Who are you?’
‘Torchwood.’
‘Who?’
Jack rolled his eyes. The police drove him crazy, mostly because he knew they hated Torchwood and would take the piss out of them, even if it meant inadvertently putting their own lives in danger by delaying Jack's team from doing what needed to be done. ‘Come on. You know who we are. We’re way above your paygrade, perhaps, but I don't have time to read you in. Consider us classified. Special Ops. Plus, I’ve got a cute boyfriend waiting at home for me with a cup of cocoa and twelve unread chapters of the karma sutra. We can be wrapped up here in less than an hour.’
‘Sorry,’ came the reply, ‘but I'm going to have to check with the Assistant Commissioner. She’s taken on this case personally. Hang here while I go speak to her.’
Jack groaned. ‘You don't suppose he means Assistant Commissioner Nixon, do you?’ Her nickname was Battle Axe and she hated Torchwood.
Owen smirked. ‘I think you just got unlucky tonight.’
