Summary: Jack is in a real state and Ianto and Owen are doing their best. A triple drabble.
‘You’re a bloody mess,’ Harkness, Owen muttered as he knelt by their deceased leader, now a mess of blood and shredded skin, hardly discernible as a human body. No matter how good a medic Owen told everyone he was, there was nothing he could do that was going to make Jack better. He was dead as dead could be. All that was left was to carry him back to the car and drive them all back to the hub where Jack could sort himself out. ‘Oi, you could help us here, you know,’ he called out over his shoulder at Ianto.
‘I am helping,’ came the short reply.
Owen turned and scowled at him. ‘No, you’re standing there just staring off into space and wandering around with a bin bag in your hand.’ A bin bag was about what Owen needed for carting Jack back to the hub.
‘I’m searching for body bits,’ Ianto said. ‘That’s not all of him, obviously. Not after the explosion. He’ll heal a whole lot better, and faster, if we can take everything back with us.’
Owen watched as be hent down by a bush that was still partly aflame, digging out a bit of something red and fleshy with a gloved hand and dropping it into the bag. Owen had dealt with a lot of gruesome things in his career but even this, watching Ianto trawl for bits, grossed him out. ‘Jesus, you really don’t get paid enough, mate,’ he muttered. Owen had to award him boyfriend of the year for that level of dedication. ‘I hope you don’t expect us to be able to figure out what bits go where,’ he added. Jack’s current state was like a puzzle with no corners or edges.
‘Let’s just make sure we’ve got all the bits.’
