torchwood100Summary: Jack feels he's left with no choice but to come back and make sure Torchwood stays buried. A double drabble.
Jack hadn’t planned on returning to Earth. Not for a very long time, in any event. He’d need a few hundred years to pass before the memories of everything he’d lost and left behind would finally crumble away into nothingness. He didn’t want to have to face the small handful of people who’d managed to survive, knowing that they would have died because of him sooner or later, just like all their friends had done. Those who’d made it – Gwen, Rhys, and Martha – were better off without him.
But someone on Earth had done something he hadn’t expected, and the word Torchwood had filtered out into the open again by some unknown actor. It had found its way into the computer systems of the CIA, and now people were digging into records that should have remained buried.
Everyone else was dead and gone, but Gwen was still alive, and a search of those files would eventually reveal that fact. Someone had wanted those files to be found, and for the sole remaining survivor of Torchwood to be found. Jack couldn’t let that happen. No one else was going to die because of him, even if that meant returning to Earth.
