‘Ianto, we're having a baby!’
Ianto couldn't help but panic at the sound of Jack's words. Dread and horror curdled in the pit of his stomach. He'd experienced one of Jack's pregnancies before and it had been a terribly traumatic experience – for Ianto, more than Jack. Jack had been a sobbing, histrionic hormonal mess, with really bad indigestion and no ability to make a rational decision, even if his life depended on it. Ianto could do without all that stress again. Perhaps he could apply for leave before Jack's first trimester and come back once it was all over.
Like it or not, he poked his head around the corner. That's when he saw Gwen standing at the bottom of the stairs with her hand on their full body scanner. On the wall, a tiny red dot glowed in her abdomen. She looked as shocked to see it there as anyone. He hadn't even known she and Rhys had been trying for a baby.
Ianto broke into a grin, as much relief as delight. ‘Congratulations!’ This was so much better than another of Jack's harebrained acts of generosity. Having Gwen happy and glowing was something he could definitely cope with.
