'Hey, Jack?' Ianto said, lying there in bed in the darkness.

'Mmm?'

'You know how you always say gods or goddesses when you swear?'

'Yeah,' Jack replied slowly, unsure where the question was going.

'D'you believe in any of them?'

That was a tough question. He knew that for whatever reason, and no matter what Torchwood threw at them, Ianto still held firmly to his faith. For him, there would always be a higher power somewhere, whether science could explain it or not.

'Once, maybe,' he said. He'd once believed a lot of things. Time had proven a cruel teacher.

Poor Jack. Living as long as he has, and seeing so many terrible things, it's hardly surpriing he's lost faith in higher powers. =(
