At first Gwen had thought maybe Jack was being genuine. Now she wasn’t at all sure.

She’d stared at the envelope before pulling its contents and was then interrupted by Andy’s phone call.

Now, sitting there in the café with the GPS it all became blindingly obvious. Who would’ve sent her a package? People didn’t even know where she worked.

Of course it had to have been Ianto.

Now it made sense.

He’d tried talking to Jack after their meeting. He knew something she didn’t, and Jack was intentionally keeping her in the dark about it.

What was their secret?

Gwen needs to learn that she doesn't have a god-given right to know everything that piques her curiosity. She's not the boss and if Jack doesn't want her to know something because he doesn't trust her to handle the information sensibly and with a clear head, she should accept that he has his reasons and drop it. I wonder if she learned her lesson. Some things she's better off not knowing. Some things can't be fixed, and some people are better off letting their hope die gradually and naturally instead of having it ripped away.

(Um, you may have noticed I didn't exactly agree with Gwen's actions in this episode. *crawls away to hide*)

I have mixed feelings on this one. What we don't see is any development between Gwen and Ianto and what happens next. Jack was probably very mad at Ianto afterwards. I think perhaps he didn't love having to keep this particular secret and given that Gwen was on the case, maybe this was the opportunity to get it all out in the open and start working on some alternative solutions. He might've hoped that something good could come of it, but was still torn over whether to break his loyalty to Jack. I'm sure he spent a lot of time deliberating over what to do despite Jack's clear instructions to end it.
Jack's not necessarily always right, which is why he surrounds himself with people who can give a different perspective. Jonah's situation was indeed terrible but perhaps some others might benefit.

I have a theory that Jack couldn't back down without appearing weak and seeming to condone Gwen's behaviour, but he knew Gwen wouldn't give up and her intransigence was affecting the entire team, so he asked Ianto to leave the package on Gwen's desk. Ianto didn't even know what was in it until later.

Either that, or Ianto had nothing to do with it at all. Owen left it.

Maybe I'll write it one day.
