Summary: Everything on Jack's desk has a function and reason for being. A double drabble.
Owen sighed in frustration, trying to find a spare inch on Jack's desk that wasn't covered so he could put down the tank containing their latest specimen. He should've told Jack to come to him, rather than the other way around. At least he had room for it.
'Problem, Owen?' Jack asked.
'Yeah,' he said, finally dumping it on a stack of reports for a lack of better options. 'What is all this crap, anyway?' he asked.
Jack looked at him with an offended expression. 'It's not... crap,' he said, forcing the word out. 'It's nostalgic.'
'Nostalgic?' Owen said, looking skeptical. 'It's junk.' He picked up a square boxy item and examined it. 'What's this supposed to be?'
Jack snatched it back, setting it gently back down. 'It's a camera. You know, back when they had real film?' It had cost him a small fortune back in 1920. He could still remember standing on the beach at Blackpool taking pictures of happy couples and blazing sunsets.
'Yeah, well, can't exactly take a photo and text it straight to your mates with that, can you?' Owen said.
Jack shrugged. 'Never had to worry about that. We didn't have mobile phones, either.'
