Summary: Ianto knows Jack means well, but he's not as helpless as Jack thinks.

Ianto stared disdainfully at the bowl Jack set in front of him. 'What is that?'

Jack chuckled. 'Now, I know you're a very intelligent man, Ianto. Even with a little bit of baby brain, I know you know perfectly well what this is.'

Ianto pulled a face. 'Excuse me? Baby brain?'

Jack settled on the sofa next to him, curling his leg under him. 'You might not have noticed it, but I certainly have. Nothing major of course, just a little bit scattered every now and then.'

Scattered? That was even worse an insult. 'Or perhaps I'm just a little sleep deprived,' he countered. 'You know it's hard enough trying to sleep with you snoring all the time. Now I can't even roll over to get away from it.'

Jack grinned, loving how easy it was to bait Ianto, even if it was a little true. 'Go on,' he said, nodding down at the bowl. 'Eat up.'

Ianto prodded it unenthusiastically.

'Broccoli, pumpkin, cauliflower, corn, beans,' Jack said, listing off the contents. 'No swede, I promise.' Even he wouldn't subject his lover to that.

'I thought it was bad enough you'd restricted me to one cup of coffee per day. Now you're forcing steamed vegetables on me?'

'Babies need lots of nutrients and vitamins, as do pregnant husbands. That means making sure you eat.'

Ianto rolled his eyes at Jack's overprotectiveness. It was a wonder he still let Ianto come to the hub and potter around, albeit in a reduced capacity. He wasn't up to running around the city, wielding guns and wrestling weevils, but he could still keep the place tidy and in order, just like the old days.

'They're not very exciting,' Ianto said, forcing down a mouthful of pumpkin. Had they been served with thick slices of roast pork and gravy, he might have thought otherwise.

'Well, you can't sit here all day and and binge on chocolate biscuits and peanut butter,' Jack lectured.

'What's wrong with that?' At least he was having cravings for reasonably normal food, and not in combination. His sister had told him all kinds of stories about mixing up fish fingers with Nutella, or crisps with tomato sauce and sausages. He'd considered topping a bowl of ice-cream with popcorn, but only to save him a second trip to the kitchen. Getting up and down was getting harder by the day.

'Be glad I haven't started you on spinach and kale smoothies,' Jack warned.

'You wouldn't,' Ianto dared him.

'Eat those and I won't have to.'

Ianto gave him a defeated look, plunging into them and stuffing them in his mouth, chewing unexcitedly. 'Delicious,' he muffled. 'I'm so lucky I have you looking after me.'

Jack leant across and kissed him on the forehead. 'Good boy. Make sure you eat all of it, then maybe I'll let you have some ice-cream and chocolate brownie.'

Jack left and Ianto sighed, stroking his belly. 'Hurry up and get here, before he kills me with kindness.'

Actually, to me that sounds really tasty. Sorry, Ianto, I know you're not a veggie fan, but the babies are worth it.

They will be very tasty, but maybe on their own not so much. Jack should have paired them with a steak. I'm sure he needs protein, too! :)
