Summary: It's another night/early start at the Harkness-Jones's

Jack didn't have to go far to find the person who was missing from his bed in the middle of the night. He could see the glow of light coming all the way up the stairs from the living room down below. He sighed and got up, padding downstairs.

'Why are you down here?' he asked, spotting Ianto sitting cross-legged on their sofa, tucked up in his dressing gown and slippers, laptop radiating bright white light.

Ianto looked up, seeing Jack standing there, looking disheveled in his pajamas, hair sticking out at all angles. 'Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you.'

'You didn't. I woke and you were just gone.'

'Couldn't sleep,' Ianto replied. 'Thought I'd get and up do some work.'

Jack chuckled, sitting down on the sofa next to him. 'And you used to complain about me getting up at three am to do work. Talk about an early riser.'

'I know,' Ianto replied. 'The irony is not lost on me.'

Jack leaned over his shoulder and read what he was working on. 'These reports aren't urgent,' Jack insisted.

'Says you who always used to leave them until someone was screaming for them. I'd rather they were done and out of the way whilst I've got a clear head to write them.'

'You've got a clear head at three in the morning?'

'I use the term in the relative sense. At three in the morning there's no one interrupting me and the world isn't trying to end. Generally. Besides, I only wake up and lie there thinking about them, so better to actually be doing them instead of just imagining what I'll write.'

'Ianto Jones, if I were to look up the word workaholic, I'm sure there's a photo of you in there.'

'Probably,' he sighed, stretching his head to one side and hearing it click.

'Come back to bed,' Jack implored, tugging on his arm. 'Who knows how long today might be. Get some sleep while you can.'

'I just want to finish this,' Ianto replied. 'I'm almost done. Another hour or two, I promise. Then we can have a long breakfast. I'll do pancakes or something. I can wake you later.'

'It's fine,' Jack said. 'If you're staying up, I'll stay with you. I've probably got a few things I can do,' he said, leaning forward and picking up his tablet off the coffee table.

'You sure?'

'Yeah. Can't sleep when you're not there. Might as well sit here with you.'

'If you insist,' Ianto replied.

Jack settled back on the sofa next to him, rearranging the cushions to prop himself sideways against his lover.

'Look at us, Ianto. Married to the job.'

'Almost as much as each other,' he added.

Jack pulled his knees up and let the tablet rest propped up against his legs. He dimmed the light on it until it was barely readable in the dark, though he claimed it was so the brightness didn't hurt his eyes. Ianto envied him his ability to see so well in the dark. His own laptop was geared up as bright as it would go, though mostly to keep him alert, and lighting up half the living room in the process.

He made good progress and by four thirty he'd cleared a significant backlog of paperwork that had been sitting in his evergrowing list of things to do. He pulled his leg out from under his laptop and stretched it, since it was half asleep, sending pins and needles down it. He was about to suggest that they go back to bed and try and sneak an hour or two of proper sleep instead of breakfast when he heard the soft snore next to him. He'd been so fixated on what he'd been doing, he hadn't even noticed that Jack's tablet had switched itself off, and that its owner had likewise powered down for the night.

So much for Jack insisting he stay up and get some work done, Ianto thought. He had no chance of getting him up now, nor did he really want to wake Jack only to move him from one comfy spot to another. Instead he just snuggled against the cushions Jack had settled up against him and closed his eyes. Did it still count as being an early riser if you went back to sleep afterwards?

Sometimes those two are just beyond adorable! Hope they don't have backache in the morning from sleeping like that!

I think they'll be comfy enough. Jack's paperwork was just bound to send him to sleep, but at least now they can both get a bit of shut eye, knowing that some of it is done.
