Summary: Jack thought he'd finally gotten everything he could want.
'Hey!' Ianto cried out, seeing a familiar leather bound journal clutched tightly in Jack's hand. 'That's mine!' The bottom fell out of his stomach at the sight of his precious diary in Jack's custody. 'How did you even get hold of that?'
Jack grinned like a Cheshire cat. 'Wouldn't you like to know?' he replied, waggling it temptingly just out of Ianto's reach.
'Give it back!'
'No chance.'
'It's not even yours!'
'Exactly! Do you know how many years I've been searching for this little gem? I would've had more luck trying to find the lost treasure of Atlantis. I've searched this hub from top to bottom a hundred times and I never felt like I was even remotely close to uncovering it.'
Ianto clenched his fists tightly at his sides to stop them shaking. 'So, how did you finally manage to find it, then?'
'Oh, you were the victim of your own success,' Jack taunted him. 'I won't say any more than that.'
'I don't go snooping in your private captain's log.'
'I never imagined you would,' Jack replied.
'But it's okay to read my diary?' Ianto seethed. Just because Jack had threatened to find it and read it more times than Ianto could count, didn't mean he was okay with it actually happening.
'I haven't read a word of it,' Jack vowed. 'Yet.'
'You know I'll just hide it somewhere else, now don't you?'
Jack grinned. 'You'd have to get it back first.'
Ianto huffed out a breath. 'Fine. What do I have to do to get you to give it back?' He knew Jack would exact a price. Whatever it was, he'd pay it.
'I'll let you have it back, Mr Jones,' Jack teased. 'On one condition.'
'Name it,' Ianto demanded, wanting it over with.
'You let me read one page.'
Ianto narrowed his eyes at Jack. That sounded too good to be true, even if it was still blackmail. 'One page? That's it?'
'That's it.'
'And you'll give it back after that?'
'Cross my heart,' Jack promised, making the gesture over his chest. 'But it has to be the dirtiest page. You find it, read it out loud to me, and I'll let you have it back.'
Ah, there was the catch. Trust Jack to find a way to make it highly embarrassing. 'The dirtiest entry?'
Jack nodded, relaxing back into his chair, gripping the front and back covers tightly but leaving the pages free for Ianto to browse. He flipped quickly through them, clearing his throat before beginning to read.
'The forecast was light sunny spells and a few late showers. Nobody mentioned anything about it raining mud and that we'd be stuck out in it for three hours whilst Tosh located and fixed the machine that was causing it. Three showers and I'm still finding dirt in impossible places...'
'Hey! You cheated!' Jack cried as Ianto snatched his diary back.
'Takes one to know one. You said dirty. You didn't say anything about erotic.'
