Title: Out with the old
Author: m_findlow
Characters: Ianto, Jack
Rating: PG
Challenge: 582 - Dial at tw100
Notes: Ianto never wants to see another old phone. A double drabble.
'What you you doing with all those old phones?' Jack asked, watching as Ianto was diligently loading the old rotary dial phones scattered on the workbench from last week into a box.
'They're going for incineration,' Ianto declared, setting the last one in the box, whose internal bell gave a tiny ring of protest at his rough treatment.
'You know it wasn't the phones that were the problem, don't you?' Jack said.
'I know. I was the old copper wiring.'
'So, there's nothing unsafe about them now.'
Ianto fixed him with a look. 'The one you answered wasn't even plugged in and it nearly killed you.'
Jack cringed at the reminder of his own selfless stupidity and all the anxiety it had caused. He didn't want to think about being trapped in his own mind for all eternity, or having Ianto sat there so helplessly by his side. He could tell that Ianto wouldn't be happy until there wasn't a single one of those old phones left.
'Maybe you're right. These old two-tones aren't much use now. No caller ID, no voicemail, and no use for all those pre-recorded phone menus that need a hash key.'
'Quite right,' Ianto agreed.
