Notes: Jack has one place where he can escape. A double drabble.

Jack didn’t bother to turn on the lights, letting the ambient glow from the hub above cast strange shadows across the underground space.

What its function had been before he had no idea, but now it served as a place where he could come and seek refuge from the chaos of the hub overhead. It was one place that nobody else touched or even entered. It was as un-Torchwood as he could make it, keeping it sparsely furnished, and not a trace of alien tech down here, apart from his vortex manipulator, which he rarely removed.

Whether the team believed that he only used it as a place of last resort to kip was unknown. He’d given up a proper home long ago. He didn’t need much - a bed, somewhere to shower, basic cooking facilities, assuming a microwave counted.

He’d always hated rattling around big houses. Compact and functional was much more his speed. It was like bunking on a star cruiser, or his old quarters back at the Time Agency. Being ensconced in a small space put him at ease. Small spaces were defendable. Nothing could sneak up on you. With everything in the hub, that was a bonus.
