Summary: Mary's pendant starts exacting its price upon Tosh.

Tosh begins tapping her keyboard. The sharp sound of the keys being pummeled at pace makes it sound more like a machine gun than a computer. She knows she shouldn't hit them so hard, and that they'll respond just as well to her usual light touches but she can't help it. On the inside she's so mad - mad and Owen and Gwen, mad at Mary, but mad with herself most of all.

Her stomach twists in knots at the distant sound of Gwen and Owen mucking around and teasing one another. She should have known. How could she not have known? How could she have been so blind as to not see that there was something going on between them? Even worse was not that she knew but what she'd heard down in Owen's medical bay. They weren't just together, but they'd been together this morning, before work, in Owen's car. She squeezes her eyes shut at the image but it doesn't go away. She feels embarrassed that she can picture it so vividly in her mind, Gwen parked on Owen's lap whilst he...

She shakes her head and forces her eyes open again, trying to focus them on the screen in front of her, taking up her artillery style typing once more. She had never been overt in her actions, letting Owen know she was interested in him, but still, she didn't have to hang a lantern on it. She's seen the dubious looks Jack gives her, or the tired eye roll from Suzie, and the impassive yet terribly subtle look of disappointment from Ianto whenever she said something complimentary to Owen, only to have him rebuff it with an equally placed insult in her general direction. Everyone seemed to know she had a bit of a thing for their medic - all except Owen himself.

And now he'd done the worst possible thing by taking up things with Gwen. Tosh felt lower than low. How long had this been going on? Reading between the lines of Gwen's thoughts not all that long, but still... It wasn't fair. Gwen had a boyfriend. She shouldn't have even been considered competition for Owen's affections, but she come right in and taken them anyway. Gwen seemed to be equally oblivious to Tosh's feelings. Tosh chews her lip as a smirk tries to force its way onto her face. Those two deserved each other in a sick and twisted way. She shouldn't be upset. She has Mary now and Mary at least cares for her. The pendant, as much as she is beginning to hate it for the things it has shown her, has at least shown her that Mary wants her and only her. She doesn't put Tosh down for trying to be nice, or show a complete lack of disinterest in her work and how brilliant she is. She touches Tosh's soul in ways she's never imagined. Perhaps that's the point of the pendant. It's everyone else who can't see the truth.

Poor Tosh, she deserves to be loved but Mary isn't the right one, she's using Tosh even though Tosh can't see it =(
