Summary: Jack proves that persistence pays off.
Ianto jumped in fright at suddenly being grabbed from behind. He needn't have worried about being attacked by something, because he was soon being peppered with kisses as those arms continued to squeeze him tight.
'Jack, I really hope that's you,' he said, though already knowing just by the scent of him. He should have smelled him coming, but he'd been concentrating on the aroma of the coffee beans he was grinding. His two favourite smells in the world - the bitter scent of coffee and that intoxicating yet indefinable smell of Jack's pheromones.
Jack continued to run a line of kisses along his jaw and behind his ear, before Jack finally turned him around and planted a long, sensuous one on his lips.
'Is it my birthday?' Ianto asked.
'In a way,' Jack replied.
'How so?'
Jack held up a scrap of paper for Ianto to see. It took him a moment to understand what he was looking at. 'Is that a lotto ticket?'
'You've just been kissed by Britain's newest millionaire,' Jack replied, pecking him on the cheek again.
'Why would you take a lottery ticket? You've got more money than you could ever need.' Ianto should know, he did Jack's taxes.
'A guy has to have something in his life to get the adrenaline going,' Jack said.
Ianto rolled his eyes. 'Yes, because if there's one thing you're lacking, it's excitement,' he replied.
'Don't mock me. I've been taking these same numbers every week for forty years. They were bound to come good eventually.'
'Every week?' Ianto did the math in his head, trying to figure out how much that had cost Jack over time, then deciding the end result made it seem trivial. 'So, what are your plans, Mr Millionaire? Giving up Torchwood for some remote tropical island?'
Jack squeezed Ianto closer. 'I couldn't give up Torchwood. But I thought we could do something nice to celebrate.'
'And what would that be?'
'I've already booked a private jet to fly us over to Paris tonight. We're going to wake up in the penthouse suit of the most expensive hotel in the city, eat breakfast out on the balcony with a view of the Eiffel Tower. We'll ride bikes along the Champs Elysees, picnic by the Seine, and spend all day at the Louvre. Then we'll have dinner at Le Maurice and return to our hotel for lots and lots of sex.'
Ianto raised both eyebrows at him. 'We're going to try and fit all of that into one day?' It sounded exhausting more than extravagant.
'I never said that. How does two weeks sound? We could hire a car and drive to Bordeaux, eat pastries and drink wine until we're sick. Maybe we could even go camp on that beach you used to tell me about. Unless it's too cold. A hotel would be just as nice after a walk along the beach.'
Ianto stared intently at his lover. Jack seemed very serious about this proposal and not at all joking. 'And how do you think the rest of the team will feel about us just taking off on a holiday?'
'I'm pretty sure they won't mind once I tell them how much of a pay rise they're getting.'
Ianto shook his head and wrapped his arms around Jack. 'So, do we really have to wait until tonight to leave, then?'
