‘Can I? Oh, sorry,’ Gwen said, stopping at the door as she heard Jack tapping ferociously at his keyboard. ‘I thought you were done for the day. I was going to ask if you wanted to come out for a drink.’

Jack half suppressed the smile in his face. ‘Don't you have a boyfriend to go home to? How would he feel about you going out drinking with another man?’

‘Well, he'd be bloody jealous if he saw how good looking you were,’ she teased, hoping that didn't sound overly flirtatious. It wasn't meant to be flirtatious.

‘As lovely an offer as that is, Gwen Cooper, I'll have to take a rain check.’

Gwen leaned her hip against the doorway. ‘Still more work to do?’

‘Always. After a day like today there's plenty to put down in my Captain's Log.’

She raised a curious eyebrow at him. ‘A Captain's Log? What, like Star Trek?’

He did grin this time. ‘I suppose.’

‘And what goes in there?’

‘Oh, all kinds of stuff.’

‘Isn't that what your mission reports are for?’

‘This is different. Some place all my private thoughts can go.’

‘I'll bet that makes for interesting reading.’

‘Oh, it does.’
